International work
From 2002 to 2006 I worked internationally focusing on promoting women in leadership and decision making.
Projects under-taken during that time included:
- Training and support for women candidates in local and national elections and capacity building for women once elected (Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Israel,Kenya, Malawi, Sierra Leone, Uganda)
- Working with civil society organisations to build their capacity to participate in decision making (Bangladesh, Iran, Kuwait, Nigeria, Qatar, Sierra Leone, Uganda, Zimbabwe)
- Training and consultancy in gender mainstreaming and gender budgeting for parliamentarians and policy makers (Bangladesh, Israel, Malawi, Nigeria, UK)
- Working with women in business, voluntary sector and the media to develop strategies to overcome barriers to women’s leadership (Bangladesh, Iran, Kuwait, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Uganda, Zimbabwe)
- Action research into barriers to women’s political participation and strategies to overcome them (Argentina, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, East Timor, Ethiopia, France, Iran, Israel, Kenya, Kuwait, Malawi, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Spain, UK, Uganda and Zimbabwe)
Clients included the British Council, Foreign and Commonwealth Office and National Democratic Institute plus a wide range of local partners.
